Over 2,000 years ago, the Greek philosopher Epicurus (lived from 341 BC to 270 BC) explored the various pleasures enjoyed by people, including food.
The Epicureans believed in living well by trying to enjoy the simple things in life.
Additionaly, Epicurus encouraged his followers to seek out what would bring them the most pleasure in the long run, even if they would had to abandon short–term pleasures to do so.
I personally like this line of thinking.
Food, its preparation and enjoyment should be stimulating and fun for all the senses and mind, should connect us to those around us and should provide us with "healthy fuel" for our body.
We should strive to achieve all of this even though it may require some reflection and effort on our part in the short term.
But as Epicurus meant, food, its preparation and enjoyment should also be simple and not consume us.
